There are many ways of locating a place to rent. It is advisable to ignore advertisements that require a search fee as this means a payment to a referral agency. Referral agencies do not arrange interviews with prospective landlords or guarantee to provide the type of accommodation sought - they simply refer the caller to a landlord or real estate agent. On payment of the fee they give access to their listings for a specified period, usually for three months.
