The Legal Services Commission provides a duty solicitor for prisoners with legal problems. The duty solicitor will:
- take messages from a prisoner to the prisoner's own lawyer
- give advice about Visiting Tribunal and manager's hearings
- advise generally about the prisoner's rights under the various Acts
- assess whether a prisoner has a problem that needs the help of a lawyer.
A duty solicitor visits Yatala Labour Prison, the Adelaide Remand Centre and Port Augusta Gaol once a week, Mobilong as required, Northfield Prison Complex once per fortnight, and James Nash House as required.
