If there are no children under 18 years of age, the court can be asked to hear the divorce application with neither party having to attend. The applicant needs to indicate in question 2 that he or she does not want to attend court. The Registrar makes a decision based on the documents filed. If the respondent has not filed an answer opposing the application at the date of the hearing, the applicant does not have to attend.

If the parties are making a joint application, the court can be asked to hear the divorce application with neither party having to attend.
