Public transport passenger offences

Offences pertaining to passengers on public transport are contained in the Passenger Transport Regulations 2009 (SA).

Some of the more common offences are listed below.

  • Failing to pay the appropriate fare [reg 100(1)]
    Maximum penalty: $1250
    Expiation fee: $160
  • Failure to validate ticket [reg 101(1)]
    Maximum penalty: $1250
    Expiation fee: $160
  • Refusal to show ticket/concession or identity card for inspection [reg 102(1)]
    Maximum penalty: $1250
    Expiation fee: $160
  • Causing nuisance or annoyance [reg 106]
    Maximum penalty: $1250
    Expiation fee: $160
  • Graffiti, bill posting [reg 128]
    Maximum penalty: $2500
    Expiation fee: $210
