Setting up and running a business is a competitive and complex task governed by numerous regulations and statutes. Studies have shown that perhaps half of all new businesses fail within five years of starting. To help avoid problems before they arise, it is important to have some understanding of the numerous Acts and Regulations that may apply.
The Department for Manufacturing, Innovation, Trade, Resources and Energy's Small Business Gateway has a number of video resources and workbooks which may help those going into business, including:
- Start Your Own Business (12 part short video series); and
- Future Proof Your Business (12 part short video series).
The Department also operates a Small Business Contact Service to provide referrals to the most appropriate sources of business information and advice.
